After putting essentially no progress in since October of last year, I've come back to it and polished it. There is still some to be fully implemented and tested but the majority of the update is going smooth. I hope for it to be either today or next weekend.
It will be an update regarding the overhaul of the school, with the feature of now being able to enter separate rooms. A computer feature, while not fully fleshed out, is there where you can buy 4 items, 2 of which currently work as of now.
That's pretty much it, the game started in September-ish of 2023 and has evolved considerably since.
A boss fight idea was added but I couldn't fully implement this into the game. I don't think it lines up with my vision either.
I also added an astronaut, so you can guess what the next updates will be like. He doesn't do anything at the moment, he's new. I added an item which I quickly removed, the idea was a bit too overboard for my ideas, too weird.
I'm thinking about removing the eye feature, or doing something with it.
There are also Game Over screens, with little subtitles of the cause under the masthead of 'Game Over', sometimes with a fun little gimmick or joke.
Projectiles have been added, the Boomerang and Pistol are in the game, part of what you can buy in the computer. They haven't gotten the ability to do damage yet, but I'll sure add it in a bit (after this blog).
A considerable amount of bug fixes were put in due to the horrendous engine I built this off, I'm replacing the roots of the game, and engines for things such as text, background changes and projectiles are just about fixed.
The menu has got music now, I plan to get rid of it and replace it maybe, since it is quite old now. I've done something with the 'More' tab now, there are some credits and info there which don't do much.
I've also redesigned some of the UI, such as the time and money tabs in the left corner of the screen and changed 'Demo' to Debug (Or D-Bug) as a programming phase.
I haven't updated the news bulletin ever, but it's on March of 2024 so I might as well just not change it.
Plans for the future!
As I've said before, the astronaut thing could be the next update, either that or more work in the overall gameplay. I have much more joy in adding things than fixing them, but I need something sturdy that will hold up my work.
I made some concept art, including the computer (now added) as well as other things I've added such as the alcohol mechanics and game box for the computer being turned into a DVD.
Other things such as an inventory system will definitely be put into consideration, although it will be very prestigious and difficult, especially with the way I've coded things, but it's something I could plan on doing.
Another idea was 'Hell' basically another dimension with characters like a Necromancer, Hades, three headed dogs, those kinda things, I'll link an image if I can under the blog.
I scrapped the idea of needing a key for the computer room, accessible by a nerd, as I thought it was kinda pointless.
Some sort of fast travel will probably be added, considering the world size now, I could do this with bus stops, and mock companies like Arriva for their janky ways of things.
Another idea if I do the inventory system is the Silver Heart (Name is a WIP) which when equipped in something like off-hand it will make you immune to death once.
With the idea of fast travel comes new towns, such as a mockup of a bar I made, which I'll also put below, again just some concept art.
I feel like the idea of health is necessary but I'd need to overhaul the already flimsy system for death in the game.
The idea was that in the bar you could get drinks for certain effects or luck.
I scrapped the idea of vinyls, or anything with music for now since it doesn't line up with the progress being made
Yeah, that's pretty much it, I need to get back to it now, Bye!
